February 2013 Birchbox: Red Carpet Ready Review

For the past eight months, I have been receiving a Birchbox. For those who don’t know, Birchbox is a monthly subscription service that sends you a box with 4-5 deluxe beauty samples for $10 (women) or $20 (men) a month.

Today I am linking up with and sharing what I got in my February Birchbox, which arrived in my mailbox on Feb. 19.

Here’s what I got in my February box:

February 2013 (1)February 2013 (4)

February 2013 (3)

Each month has a theme and this month the theme was “Red Carpet Ready” in honor of award show season.

Product details

(details taken from the Birchbox website)

Juicy Couture | Couture La La
Created with the fearless free spirit in mind, this brand new scent from Juicy Couture is a punk rock update on the original Juicy Couture. One part fruity, one part tart, and one part floral, it’s neither too sweet nor too girly. Plus, the glam bottle is worthy of a front-and-center spot on your vanity. Bright and zesty mandarin, crisp green apple, and tart red currant notes open up the fragrance, while soft lily of the valley and orange blossom lend it a hint of chic femininity.

Secret Agent Beauty | Secret Lip Affair
Your mission, should you choose to accept it: a plumper, shinier, softer pout. Your weapon: Secret Agent Beauty’s Secret Lip Affair line, which features glosses that facilitate all of the above. Since individual agents’ tactics often differ, the glosses come in three shades, each of which provides a different level of plumping power (ranging from 1-3, with 1 being the mildest). Covert ops will appreciate the subtlety of the crystal-clear Diamond-Girl Detective (Level 1), while femme fatales in the field will want to reach for the rosy Pretty-Pink Provocateur (Level 2) or the mauve Foreign-Intelligence Flirt (Level 3), both offering a healthy dose of shimmer. All the glosses contain pure aloe vera extract to moisturize and heal. The glosses are also packed with sacha inchi oil, which is rich in omega-3, -6, and -9 fatty acids as well as vitamin A, and vitamin E; the fatty acids prevent dehydration of fragile lip cells, thus making lips appear fuller. Lastly, peppermint oil extract and menthol—all-natural muscle relaxants—provide a tingling sensation that plumps lips further. (The higher the plumping level, the more sacha inchi oil, peppermint oil extract, and menthol.)

TIGI | Rockaholic Fun Times Flexible Hairspray
Whether you’re hitting the dance floor with MJ-worthy moves or racing from meeting to meeting in the office, you need a hairspray that respects your carefully coiffed locks without giving you helmet head. Give your hair the spotlight with this lightweight spray and let the fun times roll. Bonus: The strawberry lemonade scent instantly conjures up the feel of a sunny summer day no matter the weather outside. Copolymers keep hair in place and fight frizzies, while hydrators prevent dryness and wheat protein strengthens the hair shaft. Feel free to take your show on the road: the formula also protects from UV damage.

twistband™ | Thick Headband
We never seem to have a headband when we need one, like those times we’re trying to salvage a bad hair day or running on a treadmill with sweaty bangs. Happily, these hip elastic bands are remedying the situation for good. Perhaps the most versatile hair accessory ever, they look equally awesome paired with your workout gear or a sweet sundress. This six-pack comes with a variety of fun colors—from orange to turquoise—to match every mood and outfit. Skinny and stylish, each band is made of super-soft elastic that won’t leave a crease behind or induce a dreaded headband headache. They’re especially great for those growing out their bangs.

Ghirardelli Milk & Caramel Squares
As Mary Kate and Ashley, Simon and Garfunkel, and Mickey and Minnie would probably attest, it takes two to make a thing go right. Enter our latest Birchbox Find: Ghirardelli’s melt-in-your-mouth milk chocolate squares filled with velvety caramel. The individually-wrapped squares are perfect for snacking, and each is just under 75 calories. If you can be convinced to share, they make thoughtful treats for fellow chocolate-lovers. Ghirardelli uses a proprietary blend of cocoa beans, an intense nib roasting process, and an extra-thorough refining process to help ensure the smooth consistency and rich flavor of the chocolate.

I’m really excited about the Secret Agent Beauty lip gloss. Mine is in the color “Pretty Pink Provocateur,” which is definitely not a normal color in my makeup box. The twistband I received is purple, a color that definitely matches a lot of my wardrobe. I’ve recevied a twistband from Birchbox before, but it was a ponytail holder rather than a headband. I think this will fill well into my hair accessory collection. I like the scent of the Juicy Couture perfume and always like having some hairspray for those days when I spend a lot of time working on my hair. Finally, Birchbox included the bonus treat of a piece of Ghirardelli chocolate – definitely can’t go wrong with that!

    1. Thanks! I actually wasn’t the biggest fan of the lip gloss. It seemed to clump up on my lips strangely, but I’ll give it a second chance today. Birchbox Brag was fun! Hope to do it again in the future!
