Favorite song

Man, my break is going by so quickly – as is the month of December. This is my post for day 17 of the 30-day blog challenge I have taken on this month. I am writing on prompt #1: “Favorite song.”

Anyone who knows me knows I love music. Music is something I can’t imagine life without. I’m the person who finds silence often awkward or disconcerting. When I do homework, for instance, I have to have some kind of background noise – TV or music.

I’m also a musician; I primarily play trombone, but I sing and dabble in a few other instruments when I can.

So choosing my “favorite song” is a difficult task for me. I often relate music to my mood, so I don’t necessarily listen to the same music year-round.

But there is one song I will always love, regardless of my mood or the time of year – “Rhapsody in Blue.” Composed in the 1920s by George Gershwin, “Rhapsody in Blue” is a lengthy piece of music that combines classical and jazz elements.

I don’t mind the fact that it has no words either – that’s one of the reasons why I love it. I can study to it, but I can also hum or whistle along to it in my free time.

I’m not entirely sure when I first fell in love with this piece, but I know it’s one I don’t skip often when it begins to play on my playlist or iPod. What’s your favorite song?
